Does Hot Melt Tape Need to be Heated?

No, hot melt tape does not need to be heated. It is a pressure-sensitive tape designed to be applied at room temperature. The term “hot melt” refers exclusively to the manufacturing process, where the adhesive is melted at high temperatures to coat the tape backing. Once cooled, the adhesive becomes tacky and ready to bond instantly with simple pressure.

In fact, applying heat during use is counterproductive. Re-heating the tape can soften the adhesive excessively, reducing its tackiness and weakening the seal. You should use it exactly like standard packing tape: simply apply it to the surface and press down firmly to secure the bond.
